Why Should I Study this Course?

The GCSE in Health and Social Care, and Childcare is suitable for learners aged 14-16 who are interested in learning about the development and care of individuals throughout the life cycle from conception to later adulthood. There are no previous learning requirements for this qualification. It is suitable for learners who have achieved a Level 1 qualification or who have no previous knowledge of the children's care, play, learning and development sectors.

What Will I be doing in Lessons?

The qualification enables learners to develop and demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding within the context of health and social care, and childcare. The following issues are included in the specification: • human growth, development and well-being • promoting and maintaining health and well-being • health and social care, and childcare in the 21st century • promoting and supporting health and well-being to achieve positive outcomes

What Skills do I Need?

Good communication and written skills.

What Type of Assessment is it?

Two units are studied:

Unit 1 - Human growth, development and well-being. – externally assessed exam 40%

Unit 2 - Promoting and maintaining health and well-being – non-examination assessment 60%
