Why Should I Study this Course?

Drama is more than learning to act; it is essentially a life-skill. The subject allows for personal and social development, fosters creative and imaginative thought and helps to prepare a pupil for adult life. It provides an opportunity for the individual to increase his or her confidence, in particular the ability to communicate verbally and non-verbally.


What Will I be doing in Lessons?

The course consists of a range of practical work, the study of selected plays and the consideration of the development of theatre and dramatic techniques. In addition, pupils will also visit theatres and view appropriate film and television plays, in order to develop an understanding and appreciation of performance.

What Skills do I Need?

Pupils must be willing to perform in front of others and learn lines. Pupils should enjoy reading plays and participating in group activities.

What Type of Assessment is it?

Practical work 40% Devising / 20% Performing a text

Written exam 40% (the paper comprises of a set text: Interpreting Theatre)

What Post-16 College and Career Opportunities Could this Lead to?

This course will allow progression onto the AS Level Performing Arts/Drama courses, with careers in drama schools, acting, teaching, stage management, drama therapy all possible.
